After 10 years of marriage, four years of Romania life, and nine months of pregnancy, we had a beautiful little girl. Once we were all deemed healthy, we took a break and did our first family adventure. The drive was much longer than we expected but totally worth it. We drove two-and-a-half hours to a semi-local ski town before driving up into the mountains for another two hours. the road was windy and not populated at all. Once we arrived at the top we realized that the closet store would be over two hours away. then we embraced the quiet and enjoyed resting, eating, and exploring together as a family. The area had many rivers, mountains, and forests that were all serenely quiet. With the addition of Covid, I believe there were even fewer tourists, and we saw very few people at all. The most touristy attraction we found was probably the caves of Ialomitei.
At the mouth of the Ialomitei cave stands a monastery with spring water from inside the cave itself. After entering next to the monestary, built in the sixteenth century, founded by the Voivode of Romanian Country, Mihnea the Evil, you can explore 400m of the 480m of cave. With a baby strapped to us, we did not make it all the way, but we saw the silverlined spring, the waterfall, and a large open cavern.
